At Novus Engage, we get asked the same question in almost every client meeting: “Are you just going to plug my brand into ChatGPT and hit generate?”

The answer is a hard no.

But we aren’t stuck in the past, either. We don’t ignore AI. We treat it like the smartest intern we’ve ever hired. It reads data instantly, it never sleeps, and it doesn’t complain about boring tasks.

But here is the catch: The intern doesn’t run the company.

  • AI analyzes 5,000 customer reviews to find that people hate “slow shipping.”
  • A Human writes the hilarious, empathetic email campaign that apologizes for the delay and offers a discount, turning an angry customer into a loyal fan.

The machine spotted the problem. A human built the relationship.

3. The “Sandwich” Method

This is our secret sauce at Novus. We never let AI touch the final product without a human “bun” on top and bottom.

  • Top Bun (Human): The Strategy. The “Why.” The emotion we want to evoke. We set the prompt with intent.
  • Meat (AI): The heavy lifting. Summarizing research, generating variations, checking grammar, formatting code.
  • Bottom Bun (Human): The Polish. We inject humor, slang, cultural nuance, and brand voice. We remove the robotic “In conclusion” and “delve deep” phrases that AI loves so much.

The One Thing AI Can’t Do

AI is great at predicting what is likely to happen. But great marketing is about surprise.

AI looks at the past. Humans look at the future. It can’t replicate that “gut feeling” that tells us an idea is going to work, even if it sounds crazy.
